Biological control programs

GDG has made, since its inception, 500 mandates directly related to biological control of mosquitoes and / or black flies. Its unique expertise in the control of mosquitoes and black flies allowed GDG to experience uninterrupted success since 1980. GDG guarantees the reduction of nuisance caused by biting insects by at least 80%. Whatever the nature of programs, quality assurance is our guarantee.

WNV surveillance and risk analysis

GDG Environnement is a Quebec company that has the most experience for the monitoring of West Nile virus (WNV) in mosquitoes. Its expertise, skills and resources have been sought both in terms of strategies, monitoring of mosquitoes (immature and adults) and their control. GDG has over fifteen achievements in four years of experience with WNV. Since 1999, GDG Environment is involved in prevention, surveillance and control of West Nile virus (WNV) in Quebec.

From spring 2000, GDG Environnement is part of the Intersectorial ad hoc Committee set up by the Ministry of Health and Social Services of Québec (MSSS). GDG Environnement has been mandated to prepare, for the MSSS, the first plan for the prevention of WNV. MSSS mandated GDG Environnement to establish and implement the first program to monitor mosquitoes for WNV in Québec and to prepare a capacity plan to respond to epidemics.

For each subsequent year (2000-2006), the monitoring mandate of mosquitoes has been entrusted by the MSSS to GDG Environnement which, in 2003, operated the largest monitoring program ever launched in Canada with a network of over 100 stations covering all of southern Quebec. During the seasons 2003 and 2004, GDG has made the identification and screening of 700 000 WNV mosquitoes.

From 2003 to 2006, Health Canada has given GDG Environnement the mandate for WNV surveillance and to develops a plan for the territories of First Nations in Quebec.

In 2003, the first year of preventive interventions against WNV in Quebec, GDG Environnement has done, in the Montreal area, all the air traffic control interventions larvae of mosquitoes and most of the ground control. This mandate was renewed in 2004 and 2005. Interventions have ceased in 2006.

Since 2003, the City of Ottawa entrusts its entire program of surveillance, prevention and control of WNV to GDG Environnement. Under this mandate, GDG Environnement has been project manager of all activities: strategies for prevention, surveillance and mosquito control operations. As such, GDG Environnement participates in the prevention of WNV coordinated by the Ministry of Health of Ontario.

In summary, from 2000 GDG Environnement has been involved not only in the monitoring and prevention, but also in the process of developing strategies. Its research and development have maintained GDG Environnement at the cutting edge of technology in the fight against WNV. This experience and expertise have led to the participation of GDG Environnement to federal committees established by Health Canada for the monitoring and prevention of WNV. The scientific results obtained by GDG Environnement have been present not only in Canada but also in the wider forum of the North American continent.
