Press Release

Canada Economic Development will support GDG Environment Group’s research activities on blue-green algae
Thursday, July 08, 2010

Trois-Rivières, July 7, 2010/CNW/ - GDG ENVIRONMENT GROUP (TSXV:GDG).  GDG Environment Group (TSXV:GDG), and its subsidiary GDG Environnement, are very appreciative of the financial assistance obtained from Canada Economic Development in the form of a repayable contribution of $450,000.

The assistance, awarded under the Business and Regional growth program, will make it possible for the Company to consolidate its research infrastructure: laboratory equipment and facilities. The Company’s new projects include the development of a device for the rapid detection and quantification of cyanobacterial toxins, and control agents.  These projects will create high level jobs in the biotechnology sector.

“The contribution of the federal government will facilitate the expansion of our activities in the environmental health sector. It will consolidate the Company’s current services, but more importantly, new market niches will open up, in Quebec, in Canada and abroad” said Christian Back, Vice-President Science and Technologies.

The acquisition of specialized equipment will allow the launching of a molecular biology and microbiology laboratory that will conduct research on blue-green algae. “Worlwide, cyanobacteria threaten human and animal health and the environment.  Socio-economic and environmental concerns includes the safety of drinking and bathing waters, safety of food and repercussion on ecosystems.  The development of toxin detection tools and short-term intervention methods will be the continuation of efforts already invested to understand and reduce the impact of cyanobacteria.  Our research aims at extending our activities and exporting new patented technologies throughout Canada and abroad. These technologies will be supported by a high level scientific team“added Mr. Back.
